Funcom celebrated the first anniversary of Dune: Awakening with a developer stream, a limited-time event, and new in-game tattoos based on player votes. The studio shared the details in their Communinet Signal #18 post on June 18, 2026.
Anniversary Event and Progression Boosts
The anniversary event runs for four weeks and offers free cosmetic rewards alongside Progression Boost Weekends. Players can unlock a series of cosmetic items while leveling up faster during those boosted weekends. Funcom pointed to a separate blog post for the full schedule of boosts and rewards.
Player-Voted Tattoos
During the anniversary developer stream, Character Concept Artist Karoline Brenno designed three tattoo concepts live. Chat voted on a theme first — Shai-Hulud won — then picked their favorite designs. Funcom confirmed both top-voted options (options 1 and 3) are coming to the game.
“We are happy to reveal that we will be including both of the top voted tattoo designs in game (options 1 and 3)!”
The studio said they’ll share availability details later.
Community Stories
Funcom also asked players to share memories on Reddit and Discord. A few stood out:
- One player recalled a newbie mistaking them for an NPC and panicking after a failed attack
- Another told a story about a worm swallowing an entire ornithopter squad during a rescue attempt
- A third player talked about the anxiety and thrill of crossing into the Deep Desert for the first time
The full stream VOD is available on Twitch and YouTube.
