Starting October 28, Rooted is running a Halloween special event during its alpha phase. It runs until November 10, 2023. The event lets players see the Monastery at night and explore the game’s lore from 20 years ago, when humanity disappeared.
Here’s the twist: if your infection rate is high enough, you’ll see traces of a ghost guiding you to useful places. You’ll also discover ghostly scenes from the past. The event brings in exclusive Halloween items hidden in chests — one chest per session, lootable by everyone in a multiplayer game. Those items are permanently tied to your account, but they’re non-transferable. Miss the event and you miss them forever.
Alongside the event, the alpha update introduces a few new systems. There’s an emote pie menu for player interaction, though not all emotes will stay. The infection system lets bacteria spread from plants and between players. You’ll need to keep an eye on your health, eat and drink, and manage your infection rate. Equipment from the world is now available too.
The developers also addressed bugs based on player reports and ask for more feedback through the in-game system. Alpha invites are limited to one per player. To send one, log in on the website, go to ‘Rewards’, and invite a friend. That invite only grants access to the alpha, not other stages or pledge rewards.
As for what’s next — the devs say don’t expect a Christmas event. They’re focusing on development.
