SLUG: rooted-full-production-early-access-2027
SUMMARY: Developer Mat announces Rooted is now in full production with a weekly dev log, targeting an Early Access release in late 2027.
Mat is closing the book on prototyping. In a May 29, 2026 announcement, the solo developer confirmed that Rooted has moved into full production. The goal is an Early Access release sometime in late 2027 on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
The first phase was about experimentation. “Trying things, experimenting, learning what works, and figuring out what Rooted actually wants to be,” Mat wrote. Not everything survived that cut, but it gave the game its direction.
Now the focus shifts to performance, optimization, and cooperative play. “Every detail counts,” Mat said. “Making Rooted the post-apocalyptic survival experience I set out to build.”
Starting today, Mat is launching a weekly dev log. He’ll post it every week on the website, Discord, and Steam forum. Same write-up everywhere. Short and to the point — just what he worked on and how the game’s progressing.
The alpha map is gone. A brand new world is taking shape, built around the actual biomes of Oregon. The idea is exploration that moves through genuinely different places, not one flat landscape. Every stretch of map gets its own character.
There’s a lot coming together in the core systems, though none of it is in the public build yet. Survival simulates a real body — no single health bar. Hunger, thirst, hygiene, body temperature, wetness, fatigue all matter. Wounds land on the body part that took the hit. A bleeding arm and a fractured leg are different problems. Infections and diseases can set in and even spread between players.
Inventory got reworked too. There’s a real split between what’s on your character and what you haul. A small personal stash stays with you, but the backpack holds the weight. Drop it or go down, and the bag stays in the world as loot.
Building comes in two forms. The classic modular build has a stronger foundation now — pieces snap together, a real stability model means structures hold or collapse depending on what’s carrying them. And you can also move into the places already standing in the world.
