The team behind RuneScape: Dragonwilds is tackling the biggest complaint from players head-on. After poring over “thousands of survey responses” and chatting with hundreds of players, they landed on one word: clunky. On June 26, 2026, they laid out a roadmap of combat fixes coming in the 0.12.1 update this July.

What’s Changing in 0.12.1

The Core Improvements Team is targeting a laundry list of pain points. Blocking doesn’t reduce damage consistently. Stamina management is a struggle. Weapon specs feel weak. And fall damage? It hurts. Here’s what they’re fixing first:

  • Camera-relative aiming becomes the default for controllers. Your attacks and spells will go where your camera looks, not where your character faces. Anyone who already set a preference keeps it.
  • Damage telegraph timing gets tightened up. Fewer “phantom hits” from enemies you already killed, and your damage output will match what’s on screen.
  • Block animation is shorter, and the block window starts earlier. You’ll block more often, and the UI will show exactly how much damage you mitigated.
  • Skill spell casting gets mobile. You’ll be able to walk (not run) during Tempest Shield, Surge, Enchant Weapons, and Spectral Arrow casts.
  • Quick Cast works like quick prayers from Old School RuneScape. Pick a skill spell to bind, and you’ll get a bit of protection from interruptions while casting it.

More Than Just Combat

The 0.12.1 update isn’t only about fighting. With the Mystic Forge arriving in 0.12, you’ll upgrade Masterworks and weapons to higher tiers using Upgrade Cores. Both controller and keyboard+mouse users get a radial hotwheel for faster item selection, plus a quick cast shortcut for spells or items.

They also fixed the jump bug. Some players lost the ability to jump entirely due to missing action inputs or bad network. The devs “ironed out some creases” and improved air control too. The full 0.12.1 patch notes will drop closer to July.
