SLUG: solarpunk-delayed-2025-final-release

SUMMARY: Two-person team moves Solarpunk launch to next year, citing multiplayer complexity and player feedback.

The two-person team behind Solarpunk announced on November 13 that the game will not launch this year as planned. They’re moving the release to 2025, calling this the final delay before the game enters its last phase.

The small team has seen the project grow far beyond their expectations. Solarpunk now sits on over 900,000 Steam wishlists. Their demo during February’s Steam Next Fest racked up more than 100,000 downloads. The Kickstarter campaign also succeeded. Those numbers bring pressure. “One of the biggest parts of that is the multiplayer experience,” the developers wrote. They explained that building a smooth co-op mode requires extensive testing and fine-tuning. They want it to match the quality of the single-player content.

Speaking of single-player — their recent playtest went well. 93% of testers said they’d recommend the game. That feedback also highlighted what needs work. Players asked for “craft from storage” features, bigger inventory stacks, and better sorting options. Airship controls felt too sensitive to some. Cotton grows too slowly in the early game, while tools break too fast. Late-game players want more quests and reasons to explore. Thunderstorms caused FPS drops. Animals got stuck due to pathfinding bugs. Controller support and tutorial clarity also need polish.

The team is already fixing these issues while preparing for the multiplayer playtest. They’ll gradually increase how many players can access co-op mode, but they’re not giving a specific date for that test.
