The two-person team behind Solarpunk has published a straightforward community post on Steam, dated June 5, 2026, to set expectations ahead of launch. With nearly 1.2 million wishlists and a demo that’s been played over half a million times, the team is grateful — but also concerned.
“Sometimes Solarpunk can look much bigger from the outside than it really is,” they wrote. “It is not trying to compete with the biggest survival games.”
What Solarpunk actually offers is a calm, cozy survival craft sandbox. The core loop focuses on gathering, crafting, farming, and upgrading your home base. The world is handcrafted, not randomly generated. Main progression takes around 20 hours, after which the game shifts to sandbox goals like decoration and farming. It supports solo play and small group co-op.
The team was blunt about what’s not in the game. No PvP, no raids, no competitive multiplayer. No story campaign or narrative quests. No dedicated servers, no crossplay. No huge open world with endless exploration — just a limited set of handcrafted islands with two biomes. The character editor is simple. The whole thing is made by two people.
“We want to be very clear about what Solarpunk is, and what it is not,” they wrote. That’s a rare level of honesty from a studio staring at over a million wishlists.
