The next major update for Space Engineers 2, version VS2.3: “Drive, Automate & Detonate” , is arriving in late June or July 2026. Keen Software House dropped a dev diary on June 18 detailing what’s coming.

This update brings the final Mechanical BlocksWheels and Hinges — along with destructive Warheads and core Automation tools. That includes the Timer, Sensor, and the big one: the Event Controller.

The Event Controller Gets a VRAGE3 Upgrade

The Event Controller is the star of VS2.3. It’s built on new VRAGE3 systems that let it track a huge range of grid and block parameters. You can make hangars react to doors, warning lights respond to power levels, or vehicles adjust to terrain conditions.

The block supports logic modes, so you can decide if all selected blocks must match a condition or just any one of them. It also has separate true and false toolbars, making it easier to build systems that activate and reset themselves.

Here’s what the Event Controller can track:

  • Grid Parameters: blocks added/removed, atmosphere %, linear speed, angular speed, mass, gravity, dampeners, total power consumption, altitude
  • Block Parameters: functional status, integrity, inventory filled (%), door opened, resource consumption/production, stored resource (%), occupied cockpit, rotor angle, piston distance, connector alignment, weapon ammo, ore detection
  • Sensor/Timer Actions: entity entered/exited area, timer activated, analog movement controls, velocity vectors

Wind Physics and Sandstorms

Wind Physics are also getting a major overhaul. Sandstorms will become more than just visual — they’ll be something you have to engineer around. The dev diary didn’t go deep on this yet, but it’s clear the weather will affect your builds.

The update is shaping up to be a big one. Between the Event Controller’s flexibility and the final mechanical blocks, VS2.3 looks like it’ll give players a lot more ways to build reactive, automated systems.
